Welcome to the Wandering Road...
My name is Julia and this is my travelogue - filled with my favorite, unique and budget friendly spots around the world with tips for fellow travelers.
Whether you're planning a weekend getaway, or are a nomad embarking on a longterm adventure, Unmoored has everything you need to know about your destination; from the time zones to safety of the water & emergency services. Plus extensive ideas about what to see, do and eat while there! It's the best site to find local festivals, 'must try' regional cuisine, & quirky, non-touristy, hidden gems (in addition to the must see attractions) - all in an easy bullet point 📍 format, catered to the travel's interests, (not based on sponsorship opportunities) without the fluff or annoying ads.
In addition to traditional travelsite info, these pages are sprinkled with my many obsessions like...
Etymology - [see a word you don’t recognize? Click on any words in BLUE to learn the
meaning, backstory or other related fun facts!]
Libraries, Bookstores & Hidden Reading Nooks
Cozy Tea Shops & Relaxing Spas
Atmospheric Graveyards
My Travel Fantasies - like Marrying a Lighthouse Keeper
History & Mythology of the places I’ve visited
Labyrinths, & because I adore a good puzzle,
maybe an easter-egg* or two...
And my fascination with the odd, stunning & horribly beautiful!
I’ll introduce you to Friends I've Made and Adventures I’ve had in these amazing places.
So follow me - down the Rabbit Hole to learn all about time zones, onomastics & the country count controversy... & on instagram @thereal_j.f.r to see where I'm currently bedding down. If you're in the same neck of the woods, give me a shout, I'll gladly meet up at the cutest, cozy coffee shop near by!
*Finding easter-eggs will unluck puzzles, special content & rewards, so keep your eyes peeled!

The One [Wo]Man Traveling Circus

Even before I began traveling full time I was Unmoored.
As a child I bounced between parents in Virginia, just outside DC, and Indiana. My first international trip
was to Moscow & St. Petersburg in Russia, with my Social Studies class on spring break, when I was just 11,
right after it opened up to the west again. And I have been fascinated with other cultures ever since!
I’ve worked in film & television for almost 20 years, where I was in a different city practically every 3
months. A lot of my travels in the states have been on film projects where I spent a significant amount
of time in each location. When the time came to say farewell to that part of my career I missed the
excitement of new cities and couldn’t sit still in just one place! So I packed my whole world up into two small
bags and a backpack and have been living unmoored ever since.
This is my travel diary and way of sharing my life with loved ones left behind, new friends & fellow travelers,
